Peak Performance Training
and Certification
Coming this fall, you have the opportunity to learn the Five Stages of Peak Performance. You will learn how to turn anxiety into positive energy, and use your brain as a Peak Performance tool. You will learn how to create a Peak Performance mindset in yourself, AND, how to coach your students to develop their own Peak Performance mindset.
Dr. Jon Skidmore’s Peak Performance Training includes two leveled courses. Upon successful completion of these two courses, you will be a Certified Peak Performance Coach.
Level I
In this course, you will learn the Five Stages of Peak Performance. You will learn how to turn anxiety into positive energy, and use your brain as a Peak Performance tool. You will learn how to create a Peak Performance mindset in yourself, AND, how to coach your students to develop their own Peak Performance mindset. When you help your students master the skills of the Performer’s Mindset, you will be spending more time training the voice and less time dealing with the psychological interference that’s keeping them from singing freely. What’s included: 3.5 hours of instructional video 30 minutes of private consultation with Dr. Jon Skidmore. As part of this consultation you will have the chance to complete Dr. Jon’s mental skills assessment. This will help you identify the important mental skills that you will want to focus on in the workshop. Admission to a private online discussion group Video Access: Links and passwords for Level I videos will be provided within 24 hrs of tuition payment.
Level II
In Level II you apply and practice everything you learned in The Musician’s Path to Peak Performance – Level I. You learn how to use Dr. Skidmore’s assessment tools to guide your coaching and how to design a specialized mental skills coaching program for your students. You work directly with your students under the supervision of Dr. Jon Skidmore, Psy.D. Performance Psychologist. (All meetings will be scheduled in MST) Session 1. Our first session outlines the entire program. First learn when it is appropriate to coach and when to a referral is needed. Review the administration of the Mental Skills Assessment and learn to develop an individualized coaching program based on the Mental Skills Questionnaire. Learn about the 30 Days to Peak Performance Workbook and how to use it from Stage I to Stage V with your student selected to perform at the recital. Session 2. Two teachers discuss a selected student and an action plan is developed for the student and teacher. Concept review: Re-writing the worst performer ever into a victory. Session 3. Two teachers discuss a selected student and an action plan is developed for the student and teacher. Concept review: The post-performance debriefing. Session 4. Two teachers discuss a selected student and an action plan is developed for the student and teacher. Concept review: Visualization. Session 6. Two teachers discuss a selected student and an action plan is developed for the student and teacher. Concept review: Effective pre-performance routines. Session 7 Recital Master Class (two options) Your student will meet with Dr. Skidmore for a skills master class and then conduct a debriefing with the performer. Recital I. Recital II. Session 8 Concept review: The post-performance debriefing and an approach to setting goals. Session 9 The monthly supervision meeting Session 10 The monthly supervision meeting Session 11 The monthly supervision meeting Session 12 The Final monthly supervision meeting The sessions will be recorded in the event you will be unable to attend. Mastery Activities Interview a professional musician about their experience with the peak performance. Find out what they do to set themselves up for a great performance. Conduct ten relaxation/visualization sessions with students. Develop the pre-performance routine with your student that performed in the recital. Debrief the post-performance with your student that performed in the recital. For each of the four monthly supervision sessions bring a student you can discuss and get feedback about how it is going. Certification as a Musician’s Path to Peak Performance Upon completion of The Musician’s Path to Peak Performance and Level II including four months of group supervision. Then participants will be Certified Peak Performance Coaches! Participants will receive: One 30-minute consultations with a student, the teacher and Dr. Jon Skidmore. These will be scheduled at a time that will work for everyone. If the student is willing to sign a consent form it may be possible for the other teachers to observe the consultation. Certified coaches will be welcome to email Dr. Skidmore with questions or concerns. Priority will be give to coaches students when participating in his monthly Peak Performance MasterClass. You receive the following books: Conquer Anxiety: How to Overcome Anxiety and Optimize Your Performance, Skidmore, Shallenberger, Shallenberger 30 Days to Peak Performance Workbook, Skidmore You will receive the following Peak Performance guided meditations: Relax the Body/Focus the Mind, Skidmore Working with your cast of characters, Skidmore (30 minutes) *Continuing education requirements: Each year you will need to complete 3 hours of Peak Performance continuing education credits. Dr. Skidmore has a variety of workshops you can participant in or review to complete this requirement. One of the three hours may come from sources besides Dr. Skidmore. Books, videos or conferences focused on the mental skills of peak performance can count for two hours of continuing education. Other benefits: A 50% discount to retake any of Dr. Skidmore’s programs or workshops. Dr. Skidmore’s materials at a discounted wholesale price that can then be sold through your studio. Priority scheduling when you partner with Dr. Skidmore to present a workshop or program for your studio. The certification and logo to be used on personal your website. A personal testimonial provided by Dr. Skidmore to promote your studio.
